Teknologi, khususnya komputer, telah akrab dengan saya sejak kelas 2 SMP. Ya, pada waktu itu di SMP saya telah diajarkan dasar-dasar komputer yaitu MSDOS- PROMPT, WS (Word Star), Lotus dan juga CW-Writer. Pada waktu itu komputer belum mengenal Graphical User Interface seperti sekarang ini.

Selang tiga tahun kemudian (Kelas 2 SMA), dirumah tersedia komputer 486 dengan harddisk 200 MB dengan Sistem Operasi Windows 3.11. Komputer ini pemberian dari Kakek saya untuk Kakak saya yang saat itu tengah menempuh kuliah di Jurusan Manajemen Informatika Universitas Gunadarma. Tidak banyak yang saya lakukan dengan komputer ini, namun dasar-dasar komputer mulai saya pelajari disini. Dasar-dasar office dan perintah msdos prompt sedikit-sedikit mulai terhapalkan.

Perkenalan dengan komputer secara lebih dekat baru terjadi ketika saya masuk awal perkuliahan di Teknik Pengairan Universitas Brawijaya pada tahun 1995. Tugas-tugas yang bejibun menuntut saya harus menguasai komputer khususnya spreadsheet untuk menyelesaikan tugas-tugas perkuliahan. Akhirnya dengan ‘terpaksa’ saya harus keluar masuk ke rental komputer untuk menyelesaikan tugas-tugas kuliah. Pada waktu itu hampir semua rental berisikan sistem operasi Windows 95.
